WorldDoc Foundation Launches Diabetes Program for Uninsured in Nevada
Las Vegas, NV October 11, 2007 – WorldDoc, Inc. and its non-profit arm the WorldDoc Foundation announced today the creation of a new web site (www.myhealthnv.com) to help Nevadans, especially uninsured or underinsured families, manage their health. “Initially we will be offering a prescription medication discount program and a diabetes management focus area,” said Garth Winckler, WorldDoc Foundation President and CEO. “These personal health management tools are available for free to all Nevadans, but we are targeting our promotional efforts to reach the uninsured,” said Winckler. “Additional focus areas will be added at the rate of one or two every six months until all major chronic health conditions are covered.” Users will have the option of registering for a free basic WorldDoc 24/7 account, which includes a full set of health management tools which engage and educate users how to be informed health consumers.
Approximately, 21% of Nevadans have no health insurance (Great Basin Primary Care Association, 2007). “The WorldDoc Foundation Drug Discount Card, available at no charge through the My Health Nevada web site, provides discounts of approximately 13% for brand medications and up to 50% for generic. Over 1,000 generics for less than $15 per month. The card is accepted by hundreds of pharmacies across Nevada,” said WorldDoc VP of Clinical Solutions, Joe Fazio, R. Ph. MHA. “Other so-called ‘cash cards’ provide similar discounts. But the WorldDoc Foundation Card also provides the user with free access to WorldDoc’s award winning personal health management system,” added Fazio. “These tools will help educate consumers on getting the most value for their prescription dollar through the use of generic drugs and therapeutic equivalent medications.”
Dr. Daniel Goodenberger, Chairman of Medicine, at the University of Nevada School of Medicine called the creation of this web site “an innovative use of technology to address a very significant health problem in Nevada.” The School of Medicine is working collaboratively with community physicians and employers to create a new Diabetes Center of Excellence to be opened in 2008. “We will use the WorldDoc tools as an educational resource and as a way of tracking patient performance once the center opens,” said Dr. Goodenberger.
Jim Frogue, State Project Director at the Center for Health Transformation, said “Nevada families are fortunate to have this next-generation solution available to them. The World Doc Foundation deserves a lot of credit for creating this pioneering product to combat the serious and growing threat of diabetes. Myhealthnv.com will serve as a model for how to improve access to health care services in other states.”
Winckler credits WorldDoc Inc. for its “community commitment” for making these services available to uninsured and underinsured Nevadans free of charge. The WorldDoc Foundation will be working with community based organizations and local health providers to reach out to uninsured Nevadans to enroll them in this program. Individuals can register using computers in libraries or a number of community access points like the Family Resource Centers, if they do not have access to the Internet at home or work. Any group that would like to help enroll users is encouraged to call the WorldDoc Foundation at 702-821-0818.
